Through contrasting both texts I and j I have found out that in fact text I was not only published on the 1st of May 1934 but also 3 days after the actual game had been played meaning that it is an asynchronous article. This shows how much we lacked in technology in the 20th century, this also means that for this article to be published after the game meant that it must of gone through several amounts of editing e.g. the graphology so the amount of white space which has been used and in this case all of the white space has been used up, portraying that they are cramming a lot of information about the game. (Explain why white space was a premium - also discuss that the limitations of technology at the time, meant that it simply took longer) However unlike text j it was published on the BBC Sport website, as the game was happening on the 17th of May 2008. This online article emphasises the importance of how technology has advanced and improved such a vast amount, because it is coming across synchronous, as it was accomplishing giving the audience the information of the game as if they were there live.  Whereas text I failed to do this because of the unavailability to technology, so it is clear that the author of text I had to write up notes throughout the game, for it then to continue to be edited and sent to the printers. (Good - a nice AO3 point) Yet, even though text j is spontaneously written, it still comes across to have gone through an editing stage but not so much as advanced and thorough as it needs unlike text I, this is because the BBC is a prestigious company, so it was lack in any form of incorrect information. (They are both prestigious but, you are right, it is important to the BBC that the information is void of errors).

(Good - you are using a systematic structure).  Through the usage of lexis j have contrasted both texts, as to have come across as have portrayed different semantic fields. As shown in text j, the semantic field is more about the rivalry of the game, more about the fighting/war between the teams which are shown through tackles and actions that are represented throughout the article that are made from the players participating in the game, as it have come across to be more aggressive.  “Losers‘ medals” shows the spitefulness behind the point of winning, at most it shows the down sides to winning, since this comes across as a way of gloating and boasting, almost as if looking down on the opposing side. (Rather than 'the' semantic field, there is certainly lexis surrounding warfare). However in text I the semantic field is how so more focused on actual football itself as well as the participation of the players have succeeded them onto winning. “I don’t think there can be any doubt that the better team won” which was said by the opposing teams’ honorary president. This just shows how more sincere and honest the gentlemen were like in the 20th century, as there was no need of jealously, and accusations of cheating. He clearly declared that the better team had one and they deserved it, and not even due to the fact that his team performed badly it was more so that the opposing team just came across to dominate.  By contrasting the semantic fields of both of these texts it also shows how football has changed over the generation of time, and in my opinion it was for the worst.  This is because during the 20th century idea of football had changed from being focused on mob football to more serious because of the creation of the FA in 1863, and even though there was still rivalry between areas it was not as bad as it comes across now, which is portrayed in text J, where one team belittles the other team.

Rather than start with Gender, which is an AO2 point - start with AO1 and then apply Gender). The texts also differ in a way in which shows how gender was exposed, as because in text I all of the comments that were used within the article are from men and during this period of time there was a small chance that a woman had a job as such as being a journalist so it was most likely written by a male, who most probably had some knowledge of football. Whereas text j still has quotes that are used are by men, the text itself is in fact written by a woman. Also throughout the text, if you did not know it was written by a woman, you would not assume it either as the way she is writing is breaking what would be found in a normal female’s language, as it very masculine. This is purely because of the focused topic of the text is known to be a male favoured sport. (I think you are right - Caroline Cheese does seem to mirror the language used by the male writers in the text.  You do need to give evidence and analyse in greater detail).

Even though text J is an article found on the BBC website, meaning that it is more interactional as well as it shows how technology has advanced when being compared to text I. Text J, is written in a similar way to a blog so as soon as something happened it would keep any readers updated. Also because of the online technology, this causes the accessibility to become a lot easier and from the way it has been written to come across live this also means that it is written in chronological order. (Agreed - well observed) On one hand, because of the technology improvement it increases viewers because of the easy accessibility but it also has some down sides due to the fact the internet connection could be bad or even have some malfunctions which happened during the game ‘pesky technology breakdown’, as well as even though you are able to view it live so it helps if you’re out and are not able to watch the game. Yet on the other hand, after a period of time the article is then erased from the website, so if you had the disadvantage of not being able to access the internet for a while then you would not be able to re-read it.

Conversely, text I immediately shows how the lack in technology is portrayed which is the fact that the article was released 3 days after the game actually happened itself. This is because the person who was writing had to firstly write up their notes, for them to then be edited and then finally sent to the printers so the entire process would have taken the whole 3 days. Yet due to this it also has some pros to it as well, such as it is much easier to read because of the fluency throughout the article. This is also a souvenir edition, which means that you have the opportunity to keep this article for the use of memories. It also differs for the fact that reading styles have changed as not everyone would read this.
You have covered a range of ideas - well done.  Do have your lexis/semantic and grammar handouts in front of you as you write your essay.  You do need to use the terminology from your handouts.
